Developing a GIS-Based Visual-Acoustic 3D Simulation for Wind Farm Assessment

چکیده
Public landscape impact assessment of renewable energy installations is crucial for their acceptance. Thus, a sound assessment basis is crucial in the implementation process. For valuing landscape perception, the visual sense is the dominant human sensory component. However, the visual sense provides only partial information about our environment. Especially when it comes to wind farm assessments, noise produced by the rotating turbine blades is another major impact factor. Therefore, an integrated visual and acoustic assessment of wind farm projects is needed to allow lay people to perceive their impact adequately. This paper presents an approach of linking spatially referenced auralizations to a GIS-based virtual 3D landscape model. We demonstrate how to utilize a game engine for 3D visualization of wind parks, using geodata as a modeling basis. In particular, the controlling and recording of specific parameters in the game engine is shown in order to establish a link to the acoustical model. The resulting prototype has high potential to complement conventional tools for an improved public impact assessment of

Concept for Collaborative Design of Wind Farms Facilitated by an Interactive GIS-based Visual-acoustic 3D Simulation
Planning of wind farms appears to be a complicated matter in Switzerland and all over Europe, causing growing government and business frustration. The implementation often fails on the local level when it comes to choosing a suitable location for a wind farm, although the public generally supports wind power (DEVINE-WRIGHT 2005, WOLSINK, 2005). Social acceptance is a key issue for successful wi...

متن کاملAssessment of the Acoustic Impact of Wind Farm Projects: Methodology and Case
Wind energy is a clean renewable and its benefits are considered greater than the disadvantages. However, even though wind farms represent environmentally friendly projects, they frequently generate public resistance. Wind turbines are socially controversial because of their visual and acoustic impacts. The aim of this work was to design a methodology for the preliminary evaluation of potential...
متن کاملAnalysis and simulation of dynamic performance for DFIG-based wind farm connected to a distrubition system
Local renewable resources such as wind and solar are often available in remote locations. Wind farms consist of many individual wind turbines which are connected to the electric power transmission network. A wind farm can use the wind resources from a certain area efficiently. Double-fed induction generator (DFIG) is a generating principle widely used in wind turbine (WT). DFIG are ab...

Nowadays, propagation of wind turbines make challenges to supply safe power to the grid. Because of wind speed changes, supervisors are concerned to wind turbines, be able to produce appropriate electric power during the wind speed changes. As a matter of fact, investors are mostly like to invest on offshore wind farms, because of their more stable and continuous wind speed rather than onshore ...
